My piece “Shijima” for Clarinet, Viola and Piano is going to be performed again by Keglebanetrioen at Koncertkapellet, Roskilde in Denmark on 17th September. 2024. Please join them if you are around. The word “shijima” (静寂) in Japanese conveys a deep sense of silence, a tranquil stillness where the world seems to pause. It describes not just the absence of noise, but a profound, almost sacred quiet that envelops the surroundings. This term is often used to describe environments with little or no sound, such as in nature or during the stillness of night. This silence is more than just a lack of sound—it’s a reverent calm that invites reflection
