New work “Falling Upwards” set to the world premiere of my first ballet piece “Let Me Take You There” was premiered in Cincinnati, USA in December 2021.

It was the commission piece for Alexander Zemlinsky Composition Prize which I won in 2019. Thank you very much for embarking on this amazing journey with us. I can’t say thank you enough to everyone who had worked for this ballet and I’m very much thankful and humble for all your support for the last two years. It had been long journey of the creation passing through the Covid pandemic since I got this opportunity in the end of 2019 but I was just incredibly grateful to see the live performance physically at the same time I was so thrilled to every moment that we all worked together even we all wore the face masks on. Also thank you very much for coming to the all audience and I hope see you agin somewhere in the world very soon.Moreover I was doing some lectures, the public talk and private lessons for composition students in CCM while I was there, which was also very valuable time for me.

昨年12月初旬、初のバレエ作品”Let Me Take You There” の初演がアメリカ、シンシナティで行われ、初演を含む全４公演が無事終了いたしました。長い長い旅が終わりました。 2019年の末にツェムリンスキー賞の受賞とともにこの機会を頂いてから早2年。この作品は2020年の初め、アーティストレジデンシーをしていたノルウェーで閉じ込められたときに制作し始めました。国境が閉鎖され、いつ自宅に戻れるのか、見知らぬ土地で自分自身に向き合えたからこそ、孤独ととことん向き合えたからこそ書くことのできた作品だと感じています。何度も延期を繰り返し、未だ不安定な状況下でありながら、私自身がアメリカに渡航し初演を見守れたこと、無事公演を行えたことは、多くの方のたくさんの努力による奇跡のような時間でした。また今回公演での渡航に伴い、現地シンシナティ大学音楽院にて、レクチャー、プレゼン、約15名の作曲学科の生徒さんの個人レッスンを行いました。教えるという立場ではありましたが、私自身学び多い時間になりました。”Let Me Take You There”はたくさんの意味を持ちますが、日本語に直すと、『あなたを連れて』といったような意味を持っています。誰かと一緒にいることで思っていたよりずっと遠くまで行けたり、ときに気づかぬうちに、自分が誰かの手を引っ張っていたり。自分がコントロールしていたと思っていたものは案外誰かに、何かにコントロールされていたのかもしれません。自分の身体も、言葉も、感情も。そんなことを音楽とダンスで表現できたらと制作しました。見えないものに制御されてきたような2年でしたが、変わらないものは確かに今もそこにあるなと思う日々です。また新しい作品の制作に精進したいと思います。このバレエ公演をするにあたりまして、裏で表でご協力下さった全ての方、お客様に心から感謝を込めて。
